Church History 1990 - 1999


In April of 1990 a Building Study Committee, consisting of Anthony Fuller, Mary Rogers, Rich Anderson, Bill Stogdill and Morris Cothran, recommended that the church enter into a building program for the purpose of relocating our church. The vote was 52 for, 21 against.

The New Building Committee for the new church was elected May 6, 1990, they were: Anthony Fuller, Michael Yarberry, Rich Anderson, Mary Rogers and Beverly Morrison.

In 1990 the Annual Bible School was held July 23rd-27th with a total enrollment of 173 with an average attendance of 143. Our Sunday School had a record attendance of 221 in 1990.

In September 1990, Thomas McDonald was ordained to the Ministry as a Southern Baptist Minister.

In April of 1991 new carpet was installed in the sanctuary.

On May 1, 1991 Bro. Charles Womack left to become pastor in Pawnee, Oklahoma.

On July 29th-Aug. 2nd, 1991 our Annual Bible School was held with 171 total enrollment with an average of 147 in attendance with 9 decisions made for the Lord.

In July 1991, Bro. Al Fowler was called to be our Interim Pastor.

On August 14, 1991, the church voted to eliminate the position of Minister of Music and Youth because of financial problems at time.

On November 3, 1991, Alfred Fowler was called as Pastor.

In February 1992, Sheila Musteen was installed as Youth Director.

In September 1994, Billy and Sammi Snow were installed as Youth Directors.

In December 1995, Donnie and Lora Garner were installed as Youth Directors.

On March 24, 1996 a vote was taken by secret ballot to reconfirm, with our present membership, the decision to relocate. The vote was 102 for, 3 against. We now felt in unity with this decision.

On May 4, 1997 a vote was taken, by secret ballot, to purchase 25 acres on Highway 72, west of town, belonging to James and Betty Martin of Naples, Florida, for $6,000.00 per acre. The vote was 81 for, 9 against, 2 abstain. This begins the "Possess Our Land" campaign to purchase the 25 acres on Highway 72 for relocation for $150,000.00

On June 22, 1997 we had Miracle Sunday and $18,995.25 was received and $32,200.00 was pledged toward our new property.

1999 The new land is paid in full. A Note-Burning service is held on December 12th, 1999. Over the next several months, trees are planted, the driveway is graveled and a pavilion is constructed for picnics and other gatherings.
