Well, it's been way too long since I've updated this site. With my new blog and all, I am behind on writing here. You should really check out my blog. I will be trying to keep it updated with life stuff and ministry stuff as well. In the future, this little newsletter may disappear.
Today I was driving on 540 and all of a sudden I saw a cop. My immediate reaction was to slam on my brakes. I then looked down and realized that I wasn't even speeding. Now granted, that was probably due to sure luck, because I usually do speed. When I see a cop, my immediate reaction is fear to a large degree. Fear that I am doing something wrong and I am about to get caught. Fear that I need to quickly fix what I've done wrong before the cop sees it as well.
I think that often we view God the same way. We think of Him as a cop who comes around to make sure that we are doing everything correctly. We view Him as this "cop in the sky." Often we live our lives frantically trying to convince this "cop in the sky" that we aren't breaking the law and that we aren't sinner. The reality is that we are sinners and He already knows that! That's why He sent Jesus to come and pay the ransom that we were and still are incapable of paying.
During our Mt. Sequoyah retreat, our speaker Andrew Bolger reminded us that it's all in Christ alone. We are made perfect before God not by what we do or don't do, but by our identification with Christ. One of my favorite songs is In Christ alone. I think the lyrics to this song are amazing and reveal a very practical truth. We don't have to live in fear and we don't have to live under bondage. Jesus came to relieve us of that and He continues to intercede for us today! I leave you with the lyrics from this wonderful song! May we live with this reality daily! Until next time, do something good for yourself, and somebody else! Peace!
Noah Mitchell-Youth and Discipleship
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost it's grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Brought with the precious blood of Christ
No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
'Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand
